THE INSTITUT CATALÀ DEL PEU CARRIES OUT BIOMECHANICAL STUDIES TO THE ALTRA SPORSTWOMEN AND SPORTSMEN.

On November 2021, Fitmetric, by the Institut Català del Peu had several symposiums of biomechanical analysis and podiatric explorations to runners of the Altra sporting shoes brand. Fitmetric is the Department of the Sporting Biomechanical Assessment of the Institut Català del Peu. Many sportsmen and sportswomen visit our installations. Besides, brands like Altra are very interested in our work. Altra is a sporting shoe brand specializing in trail and road shoes with  very specific qualities. All its models are 0 drop, broad-fitting shoes in order to expand the toes and to avoid to be compressed, like happen in most of conventional shoes. The aim it has is to provide the runner a natural running, favoring that all toes will be able to express when running, particularly the first radius, which is the most important toe to carry out a correct impulse. We have a very special synergy with Altra. Since a long time ago, we collaborate researching the qualities of some models of Altra in different types of runners. These symposiums were devoted to assess their runners with several shoes with the aim of being able to recommend exactly to the runners the kind of shoes they needed. These runners had the aim of preparing for Fehobia 2021. The Behobia-San Sebastián is a traditional race of more than 100 years of history which is held every year, 20 kilometers of trajectory, with thousands of sportsmen and sportswomen that any runner is not concerned. This is a very famous race, every year is much better organized and every year attracts more runners. The aim of runners is always to prepare better themselves every time, and to arrive just in time to any competition of their calendars and also being able to get the objectives they think about. Our aim with runners is to make sure that is possible that runners will get their aims as best as possible, particularly when is about those runners who have become especially aware with their health, they commit themselves to a fine tuning with the help of every type of professionals who can guarantee them that fine tuning. We show you in this video how this fine tuning of runners it was. If you have asked any time yourselves how exactly do we work, we show it in this video in detail. The first thing we do is a very exhaustive podiatric exploration, where we can see possible upsets which the runner may have, we examine the type of foot, the type of footstep, the static plantar footprint, the posturology, the shoes, etc.; and now we carry out a functional assessment, where we can see if there is any pain or limitations of some kind of movement, asymmetries of strength, flexibility, etc.; and, finally, we carry out an assessment of the muscular response, integrated with the 3D biomechanical assessment with our Vicon system through a series of markers which we put to the sportsman, sportswoman and 12 cameras with which we can see the movement from any perspective. Therefore, we can get results of angles, speed, trajectories, times of footstep and flight, movement of the center of gravity, data about the stretching and the reduction cycle of a lot of muscles and the muscular response. So, we can understand where the deficits are which can spark off important asymmetries and also lesions. Regarding shoes, we tried different models of Altra and what with the podiatric information obtained and what we observed regarding the results of the biomechanical analysis, we decided which kind of shoes provide the best results, mainly with respect to muscular response and articular kinematics, particularly in the ankles, for the pronation control, flexion-extension, etc. The next video will clarify you any doubt you may have about the trust placed in Fitmetric by Altra, by the Institut Català del Peu for all these runners.
